Uncle Henry´s Universe.

About the blog

I have no heavy training... Barely Elementary School. Preferred the wilderness, it became my university, but I got muddy boots and experience instead of School knowledge so my English was therefore quite inadequate. This blog is a project to improve my skills in English language.

We all have our own universe, welcome to visit mine.

Do not move Dzok !

Travel Posted on Thu, December 19, 2013 11:15

Now have local politicians in Kraków got the idea to
move the monument of Dzok in favor of yet another monument to World War II, but
the resistance is massive, most people thinks that it´s better to place war
monument closer castle Wawel and let Dzok continue to wait for his master .

The dog Dzok became famous in the early 1990s when his
master got a stroke in his car on the busy Grunwald Roundabout (B- 7) and was
taken away in an ambulance. The man later died but the dog was still there and
waited faithfully for a whole year to his return (1990-1991). Eventually, Dzok
accepted to live with an elderly woman, who daily has provided him with food.
When she died 1998 he was sent to a home for dogs, from where he escaped after
two days in captivity but he got killed the same night, run over by a train.

Many city dwellers who daily seen the dog wait at the
roundabout were emotionally involved by his fate. 2001 erected a statue of the
faithful dog Dzok, at Petite Fleur Czerwinski, next to the River wisla and
Wavelhill . It is created by the sculptor Bronisław Chromy (who also created
the Wawel Dragon). Since then, the monument has become a popular tourist
attraction. A collection box in the sculpture’s plinth provides assistance to
other abandoned pets.

Sleepyhead!

Wolf Posted on Tue, December 10, 2013 22:57

In three days I have lagged on my Nikon D600. Three
days in difficult terrain, with demanding tracking and the savage at times bad
weather. Snow and moisture on all equipment and not a single photo has been
taken! So this morning I decided to leave the camera at home … And we joked
that I would surely get to experience things that I dreamed of to shoot. I
agonized ahead of the decision. The wife came with the brilliant idea of that
such an event is no failure, it could always be a blog post out of it!

So dear friends, here’s the story; Suddenly, I froze
at the stage when I realized it was a wolf asleep in front of me … I was
standing on top of a pointed stone and slid all the time with my feet in the
snow. The wolf slept very deeply. Sometimes it stretched on like a cat, it
seemed to feel really good. I sent a thought to my Nikon D600 that can be
focused manually, is very bright and a wonderful camera …

I managed to quietly take off my backpack and clamp it
down in the snow next to my sliding feet’s. The wolf raised his head and
listened in my direction, lifted his nose and sniffed but found nothing
suspicious, and then fell asleep again. Got slowly and carefully up the pocket
camera and took some pictures through the brushwood forest. The distance to the
wolf was barely 70 meters.

After 5 minutes of balancing, I slipped to the stone
whereupon the wolf immediately woke up. It looked at me for a few seconds and
then slid down into the snow and disappeared among the bushes.

On several occasions during the day, I heard the
wolves howling around me, I understood that they were close because the concert
was deafening, but thought they had left the area when I was on my way home. I
do not need to mention that I was not the least bit scared when I saw the
bloodthirsty beast straight in the eye.

Fabolus Krakòw!

Travel Posted on Wed, December 04, 2013 17:14

Have spent
some lovely days in Krakòw and I must admit, it took at once a place in my
heart. What a city! Stare Miasto,
“the old city” had roots in the 1200s and was full of stunning
architecture and quaint alleyways.

Brama
Floriańska
is the only
city gate, of the original eight built in the Middle Ages, that was not
dismantled during the 19th-century “modernization” of Kraków.

There are
plenty of cosy cafes and restaurants where you can warm yourself for a moment
from the biting December wind.

Exciting
facades in the Jewish quarter, Kazimierz!

On
Market Square, Rynek Glowny, one of
Europe’s largest squares, stands a statue of a head symbolizing headless love. A natural place for tourist photographer!

Bye for now!

1001 Inventions!

Everyday life Posted on Sat, November 16, 2013 11:38

At the
museum in Karlstad is currently undergoing an amazing exhibition on science and
innovation from a historical perspective from the Muslim world. It have
previously appeared in a few world cities such as London, Istanbul, New York,
Los Angeles, Washington DC and now as the only viewing in Scandinavia,
Karlstad.

It is an
incomparable journey through advanced cultures with exciting people and
revolutionary discoveries, ranging from skilled surgeons to flying caliphs and
female security chiefs. When one looks around in the world today, cannot help
but wonder, what the h… happen?

Joy of Life

Photo & Video Posted on Sat, November 09, 2013 16:28

There are
moments when I feel so miserable old … and envy today’s young people who have
it so damn funny …

… but on the other hand, it’s
quite nice sometimes to be able to blame it on age and not have to be hip and
cool … like when I see videos like this one!

Caribbean expectations.

Travel Posted on Sun, October 20, 2013 19:30

As the cold and darkness increases, dreams begin to germinate about upcoming vacations. Nothing is decided yet for this winter; maybe we stay at home and edit all the old sins. Or it will be like before; that I happen to slip on the keyboard and woops … a new journey is suddenly ordered!

Last time we ended up in Cuba. Absolutely amazing and totally unforgettable!

Chilled at
the computer for a while today, but did not get as much done. There is some
video footage from Cuba but nothing that has been edited yet. Eventually I
managed to cut a minute from a domestic flight to Cayo Largo, I think it
breathe expectation…

Yellowish!

Photo & Video Posted on Thu, October 10, 2013 21:22

After a
fantastic summer follows an outstanding autumn, do not remember when I last
experienced such splendour of colour. It’s magical!

The colour
palette is probably the result of dry and cold weather without strong winds.
When autumn storms arrive, it will not take long before the trees are bare.

We have
enjoyed the autumn unrestrainedly, every day at work, but suddenly everything
changed and we start desperately crave for rain. Heavy rain. Happened to look
in our well and saw the result of a very dry summer and an equally dry autumn.
It was almost empty! If snow and freezing temperatures comes instead of continuous
rain, we be without water all winter …

So pray for
rain in large amounts, but while you wait – enjoy the brilliant colours!

New car.

PG / PPG Posted on Sun, October 06, 2013 20:17

Now I’ve
finally got hold of a car that accommodates the paramotor but it is a bit
special. Do not think I can live with the gold steering wheel, but has not the
heart to remove Betty from the bonnet! She makes me happy 🙂

Mature? Life
is too short, I don’t care…

It’s amazing to fit a complete engine aircraft in the trunk, along with
snacks, clothing, tools, extra paragliders and a lot of other things.

It didn’t help.

Nature Conservation Posted on Wed, September 25, 2013 21:35

They did
their best but it did not help. Last week we had to take down the sign for the
Dune Tiger Beetle. It is probably now gone from our landscape. Sadly, it’s been
a nice acquaintance.

Every
spring, the last few years, has signage and rope protected their premises in
Ginbergsängens Nature Reserve. The hope has been that the tourists on the river
should not destroy their habitat. Instead, has the high water probably been the
death knell for the small population.

Moonlight Kayaking

Kayak Posted on Sun, September 22, 2013 10:42

Finally
paddle premiere, late in the year but unforgettable. To paddle in the moonlight
is an experience that we enjoy too infrequently, it often goes years between.

Aunt and I
set course across flat calm water when the full moon rose over Rowan Hill.
Darkness fell quickly as it does this time of year, it was chilly and mist rose
from the slightly warmer water. The moonlight painted the tracks of our journey
in silver. It was magical.

Sound
carries well over water and get another character in the dark. A distant diesel
engine who struggling in
an uphill, a grey heron that
scream out his dissatisfaction when we probably raise it from its rest, geese
chatting from the beach and the calm evocative sound of the paddle, leaving the
water.

Fog veils
thickened and for a moment, we thought that the Black Pearl coming towards us,
but it was probably just a small island, we believe …
